Sedation Dentistry in Denver
What is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry, also known as sleep dentistry or conscious sedation, involves medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. It’s particularly beneficial for individuals with dental anxiety, fear, or phobia, as well as those undergoing lengthy or invasive treatments.
What are the Benefits of Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry offers a range of benefits for individuals who experience dental anxiety, fear, or discomfort during dental procedures. One of the primary advantages is the ability to promote relaxation and alleviate anxiety, allowing patients to undergo necessary dental treatments with increased comfort and ease. Sedation dentistry can also help manage strong gag reflexes, allowing for more effective treatment delivery. Additionally, sedation can make lengthy or complex procedures seem shorter and more tolerable, reducing the need for multiple appointments and enhancing overall convenience.
Who is a Candidate for Sedation?
Candidates for sedation dentistry include individuals with dental phobia, previous traumatic dental experiences, sensitive teeth, or a low pain threshold. Furthermore, patients undergoing extensive treatments or those with special needs that may make it challenging to sit still for extended periods may also benefit from sedation dentistry. By offering a safe and effective means of relaxation, sedation dentistry enables patients to receive the dental care they need while minimizing stress and discomfort.
Our Sedation Options
With our sedation services, you can relax knowing you’re in caring hands, allowing you to receive the dental treatment you need with minimal stress or discomfort. Let us help you achieve a healthy and beautiful smile while ensuring your comfort every step of the way. Some of our sedation services include:
Laughing Gas
The minor form of sedation is laughing gas. To become relaxed, the patient needs to breathe in the laughing gas, mixed with oxygen, through a nose mask. Patients will remain completely awake and aware but feel relaxed through this sedation.
Intravenous (IV) Sedation
Using an IV, you will be able to reach deep and complete relaxation. Many patients who take advantage of IV sedation become entirely relaxed and eventually fall asleep. During your procedure with IV sedation, we will monitor your vitals constantly. Patients who choose IV sedation must know that they cannot drive after their procedure. Someone must pick you up and take you to your desired destination.
General Anesthesia
General anesthesia can be given in many different forms, such as breathing it in, medication, and intravenous. If you require or choose to have general anesthesia, we will speak with you about each one of your options and help you select the best one.
If you suffer from dental anxiety, we encourage you to give us a call or come meet with us to discuss and determine which type of sedation is best for you.
A certified registered nurse anesthetist administers our sedation techniques to ensure your comfort and safety. Your anesthetist will meet with you to review your medical history before the procedure. During this time, they will also answer any questions or address concerns that you may have about the anesthesia or your procedure. You can trust our anesthetist to help you make the best decision when it comes to your sedation. Even after your procedure, the Aspen Dental team is committed to your recovery—we will make ourselves available to answer your questions any time of the day.
